First Thessalonians emphasizes Christ’s return for the saints while Second Thessalonians emphasizes the Day of the Lord, that time when God pours out His wrath against sin, sinners and sinful nations. Both epistles reveal who Jesus is and what He will do for saints and unsaved sinners. The purpose of the second letter relates to confusion concerning these two events. Someone wrote a letter to this young body of believers, forging Paul’s signature, telling them that the Day of the Lord had already come. Many of the saints, due to the intensive persecution against the church, thought that the forged letter must be true.
