Godliness spans both the external and internal. It is not conformity to a list of high standards. It is also not a feeling of closeness to God, or a good relationship to Him with no fruit or obedience to Him. In II Peter 1:5-7 Godliness is the virtue that connects the personal and the social. But how can we be godly? I Timothy mentions godliness several times and in examining these passages we can see how we can cultivate both a heart attitude of reverence and worship to God and the outward actions that are befitting of it.
