The Roman statesman Circero said that to be ignorant of what happened before you were born is to be forever a child. His observation coincides with the teaching of the New Testament which urges believers to conduct themselves with wisdom and discernment during their age (Ephesians 5:15-17; Titus 2:11-12; Hebrews 5:14). Proper discernment depends upon the ability to understand both the times (the age) and the text (the Scriptures), and to draw the proper inferences between the two.
