During the interim days prior to the Tabernacle, Moses erected a temporary "tabernacle of meeting," where he would go regularly in the sight of all of the people to commune with God. When Moses entered this tent, the glory cloud would descend to the door, reminding the people that their God was willing to make Himself known to them. There are several features about God in this text and in the larger book of Exodus itself that demonstrate His knowability.
