God instituted the Passover celebration for the people of Israel so that they would remember how he had delivered them from Eqypt. As he celebrated his last Passover with his disciples, Jesus would transform that celebration into a remembrance of his sacrifice on the cross to deliver his disciples from their sin.

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is central to our salvation and is at the heart of the gospel message. This will be the theme of the last three chapters of Mark's gospel. As Mark sets the stage for this event, we will be confronted with several different individuals and their relationships with Jesus Christ.

Jesus prays for His disciples and then beckons them to come unto Him, take His yoke, and learn from Him. This is our calling too as disciples of Jesus.

As Jesus concludes his teaching concerning the end times, he focuses on his glorious return and its implications for his disciples. The purpose of his teaching is not to give his disciples the exact date and time of his return but to admonish them to live godly and faithful lives in order to be prepared.
