As Jesus concludes his teaching concerning the end times, he focuses on his glorious return and its implications for his disciples. The purpose of his teaching is not to give his disciples the exact date and time of his return but to admonish them to live godly and faithful lives in order to be prepared.

As Jesus taught his disciples about the signs of the end times, he warned them to be on guard. Be on guard so that they were not surprised by persecution. Be on guard so that they were not deceived. Be on guard for the devastating events that would take place because Jesus had already warned them. All of this to remind them that God has a plan and is in control.

In explaining to his disciples the signs of the destruction of the temple and the end times, Jesus uses at least 19 imperatives. They are designed to teach the disciples how to live and be prepared for the end times. This passage will do the same things for us.
