   Philippians 1:2
Wednesday Evening Service,  May 29, 2013
In this session, we will look at the theme of the book of Philippians and then consider Paul’s greeting in Philippians 1:2. The theme for the Book of Philippians is THE MIND OF CHRIST. An alternate theme would be THE JOY OF THE LORD. Experiencing the joy of the Lord is dependent on having the mind of Christ. The theme verse is Philippians 2:5: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Paul’s greeting is comprised of the words GRACE and PEACE.    Paul's Salutation
   1 Thessalonians 1:1-3
Sunday School,  October 28, 2012
First Thessalonians is the Apostle Paul’s first epistle (letter) written in the New Testament. He established a pattern with this letter that he continued in six other New Testament epistles. He always began with a salutation which included an introduction of the one writing the epistle, the church addressed and a greeting expressing some statement of good wishes for the readers. This greeting was often a desire for grace and peace which was common in the letters written in the Hellenistic world. For Paul’s readers, grace is God’s provision of everlasting life through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Peace was the byproduct in the inner lives of those who by faith accepted God’s provision.

   Enslaved by False Freedom
   2 Peter 2:17-19
Sunday Morning Service,  September 23, 2012
The false teachers in 2 Peter not only taught false doctrine, but lived like reprobates. They were after the Christians, to draw them into their own sinfulness. In verses 17-19, Peter shines more light on the destructive lifestyle and methods of these charlatans. The core issue was a distorted view of Christian liberty. Freedom in Christ was turned on its head. Unfortunately, notions of false freedom still circulate today. Many Christians in our generation promise fraudulent liberty and turn the free grace of Christ promised in gospel into a greenhouse for sin. We too must reject false freedom.

   Thanking God for Other Christians
   1 Corinthians 1:4-9
Sunday Afternoon Service,  June 24, 2012

There are many ways in which we rightly pray to God for other believers. We pray for their their spiritual growth in grace, and even their health and prosperity (submitting to the will of God). But there is another way in which we should mention other believers to our God. It is necessary for us as Christians to recognize the work of God in other believers. We should not sin in the way we think about other believers. We ought to be people who look for the “fingerprints of God” in the lives of other Christians.
