In this session, we will center our attention on the eight visions in chapters 1 – 6 concerning Jerusalem and the people.

   An Inverted World View
   Malachi 3:13 - 4:4
Sunday School,  May 13, 2012
The structure of Malachi takes the form of six disputations between God and ancient Israel. The sixth and final such disputation demonstrates the depth to which their external and formal religion had taken them. They had concluded that it was vain and profitless to serve God and that God blessed disobedience. Nothing could be further from the truth and is an inversion of true spirituality.

Nahum: God's Mercy Displayed in His Vengeance
   Nahum
Sunday School,  March 18, 2012
Often times Christians today focus on the love and grace of God, and rightfully so, for they are central to the Gospel. But at times the focus on these attributes causes us to miss the beauty of God's wrath. That's right, God's vengeance and anger is a beautiful thing when seen in the totality of God's character. The book of Nahum radically illustrates the wrath of God, showing how God's people can receive comfort and mercy in the outpouring of God's wrath.

   Amos
Sunday School,  February 12, 2012
The nation of Israel overflowed with optimism at the height of her economic, political and military strength. Business was flourishing and material wealth abounded and the people were smug about it. They became morally corrupt and had no compassion for the poor. Spiritually, they had forgotten God and sacrificed to idols. God sent Amos from Judah to speak against the sin of the people. His message was strong and stinging and the people hated it, telling him to go back to Judah. In spite of their failure to listen, Amos was faithful in carrying out God's message at this critical time in their history.
