   Counterfeit Gospels
   Galatians 1:6-11
Sunday Morning Service,  August 7, 2016

In a day of unprecedented deception, we can expect it to increase. If Satan masquerades as an angel of light, why not his servants try to deceive us by all means. Even their "gospel" will be very deceptive. Are you going to examine very closely or be fooled by their crafty use of language? It is a false, perverted gospel.

   The Ten Commandments
   Exodus 20:1-17; Galatians 3:19-24
Wednesday Evening Service,  August 6, 2014

Speaking for the entire body of Christ, the Apostle Paul said, But we know that the Law is good (I Timothy 1:7, 8). Jesus said, Think not that I am come to destroy the law...but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17, 18). Jesus took the Ten Commandments and summed them up in two commandments. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:30, 31). It is by the Law that we recognized we were sinners in need of a Savior Galatians 3:24; Romans 7:7). Obeying the Law does not save us, but it does reveal our faithfulness to God and our ability to keep it in Christ. It is also a great tool for sharing the Gospel with the unsaved.

We look at the heart of the Christian faith in this lesson exploring the doctrines of the atonement and the Christian good news. Some of the questions we answer are: Why was his death necessary? On what basis does God forgive sinners? How does Christ's death accomplish forgiveness? What are other understandings of the atonement and how do they fit with Scripture? And what is the Christian gospel? What is not the gospel?

The Epistle to Diognetus and the Doctrine of the Atonement
   Galatians 3:13
Wednesday Evening Service,  August 4, 2010
The anonymous Epistle to Diognetus is an early Christian writing that may be classified as an apology or defense of the faith. In it, we see how early Christians defended the faith in the face of opposition. Of particular benefit to us is the epistle's articulation of the doctrine of the vicarious atonement of Christ. This lesson discusses these things and also explores the New Testament's teaching on the atonement, as well as other extra-Biblical Christian statements articulating this doctrine.

   Staying in the Race
   Galatians 5:7
Sunday Morning Service,  July 22, 2007

After the apostle Paul evangelized the Roman province of Galatia, heretical teachers infiltrated the Galatian churches, teaching a gospel based upon Jewish works and causing many to fall away from the doctrines of grace and faith in Christ alone. In calling the Galatians back to the true gospel, Paul uses the metaphor of an athletic event, through which we may discern three principles encouraging us to stay in the Christian race.

A New Year's Resolution Worth Keeping!
   Galatians 4:1-7
Sunday Morning Service,  December 31, 2006

Here is a novel idea for a New Year's resolution: resolve to trust God more! God is the initiator and provider of salvation and He does so without respect to the merits and demerits of humans. If you want God to be pleased with you, then you should resolve to do more believing and less working!
