What We Believe
Bethany Bible Church is an Independent, Baptist Church.
We believe that the Old and New Testaments are the very Word of God, breathed out by Him, completely without error in the original writings, and our only authority for faith and practice.
We believe that there is one God, eternally existing in three Persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. He is the holy and loving Creator and Sustainer of all that exists in heaven and earth; of human beings, whom He created male and female and gave them the ability to love Him with all their hearts, to worship Him, and to serve Him.
We believe that the human race fell from their original state of innocence when Adam and Eve, our first parents, sinned against God in Eden; that all people are now born sinners by nature, with no heart to love God or even to seek God, awaiting the just and eternal judgment their sins deserve, and have no means within themselves of changing their helpless condition.
We believe that Jesus Christ provided the only means of saving or rescuing the human race from sin and its consequences. The Lord Jesus, while fully retaining His status as God, entered the human race through the womb of a virgin; He lived a life of perfect obedience before the Father, thereby succeeding where Adam failed; He gave Himself to die on the cross of Calvary as a holy sacrifice for the human race, accepting the righteous wrath of God upon Himself, paying the price for sin; He came back to life after three days in the tomb, conquering death and hell and showing Himself to be the Savior of the human race who alone can offer eternal life.
We believe that a person is saved from the consequences of sin only when he or she recognizes the need for personal forgiveness from God and believes or trusts in the death of Jesus Christ for sin and His bodily resurrection from the dead. Those who believe are given the righteousness of Christ and are declared by God to be free from the penalty of their sin.
We believe in the Person of the Holy Spirit, that He convicts of sin, regenerates (gives new birth to) the believer and enables the believer to live a holy life.
We believe that a New Testament Church is an organized body of believers baptized by immersion, practicing the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Table, observing the offices of pastor (elder) and deacon, discerning the will of God through congregational government, accountable to each other to live a life of holiness, and actively engaged in witness. We believe in personal and ecclesiastical separation. Personally, we are “in” the world, but “not of” the world. Ecclesiastically, we separate from those who compromise the essential truths of the Bible.
We believe that we were created by God in His image, but that, as the result of the sin of Adam and Eve, humans are sinners by nature, with no heart to seek God, lost, and having within themselves no possible means of salvation. A person is rescued from this helpless condition only when he recognizes his need for personal forgiveness from God and trusts in the death of Jesus Christ for his sin. We believe in Salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. (Ephesians 2:1-10)
We believe in the imminent return of Christ for His own, the literal end-time events described in Revelation, and that believers “should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:12-13).
